    Description

    Ambrotypes are positive images on glass and need black backing in order to be seen. The exception to this is ruby glass ambrotypes, which are on colored glass, and need no black backing.
    The women are dressed alike so we assume they are sisters. Whether that’s a correct assumption, we’ll never know. They each wear a blue dress with white collar. They each wear gold earrings and gold brooches. They hold hands.

    HOUSING. Split full case.
    CONDITION. Very good condition. Some dust and debris under the cover glass, including on the faces of the women.
    APPEARANCE. Color is a big plus. Lots of symmetry. Strong empathy between sitters. A lovely ambrotype.
