    Description

Fresh from a single-family estate sale in New Jersey, this sixth-plate ambrotype depicts an exceptionally cute young girl standing on a dark wooden chair. Her off-the-shoulder dress is tinted dark red with a bit of light blue around the shoulders. The striped tablecloth/blanket is heavily tinted red and green on white. With delicately tinted cheeks, she has the face of a porcelain doll.
Image condition: In various spots, the collodion image has flaked off the inner glass, but the image comes through nicely.
Housing: Split paper-covered case with near-mint and HIGHLY UNUSUAL brass mat and preserver. The case is also RARE and not find in Sean Nolan's comprehensive guide to cases, mats and preservers. Nolan told me he believes it dates from the late 1850s or early 1860s.
